Here are some shots on my tumblr: iPhoneography | A Trip to Tuscany.

I did some sight-seeing in Milan today. Although I’ve been living here for so many years there are still many things of this city that I haven’t seen yet. So I thought it might be fun to go where the tourists are usually draged to whenever they come here.
One important historical place is the Basilica of Sant’Ambrogio named after the patron saint of Milan. Inside the basilica is a crypt with Sant’Ambrogio’s remains.
As you can see there are two sets of remains. Believe it or not, no one is really sure who the second remains actually belong to. My guess is that they belong to Ambrogio’s close “friend,” who probably “served” him in a very important capacity, earning the saint’s undying affection.
Here’s another shot of the two of them:
This is what the Basilica looks like from the outside:
Nearby the Basilica there is one of my favorite buildings in Milan. I am not sure what it’s history is, nor do I know it’s true age. But I think it’s pretty cool looking. Got that whole castle thing going for it.
In the same neighborhood is the Pasticceria Marchesi which is one of the oldest pastry shops in Milan, if not the oldest. It has been open since 1824. It is a very “in” place, where the milanese like to be seen on weekends for breakfast.
In front of the Basilica is a double archway and tower the date back to Roman times, when Milan was called Mediolanum.
A straight on shot of the ancient arch:
I love roaming around an old city and discovering the narrow streets that give you an idea of what the city was like before cars and buses existed. Here’s one I found today while walking around.
Another great find was a toy store/hobby shop that sells used analog cameras.
Well those are some of the iPhone shots I took today, which happens to be my first day of self-imposed unemployment. Yay!
My girls and I spent the day together. We started it off with breakfast at Arnold Coffee, located behind Cattolica University. We enjoyed muffins and brownies and American coffee.
Rebecca felt like showing her coffee instead of her face.
Noa, never they shy one, showed off her wonderful smile and her always-happy disposition.
Babu went with his usual funny face, never free with his smiles.
Marina Abramovic, “the grandmother of performance art,” is having a show here in Milan. While waiting for the bus on my way to work this morning I saw this ad of her show:
You will notice that another artist added an opinion of what he/she thinks of Abramovic, or perhaps performance art in general.
Here’s a quick pic of Reb and me, waiting for a doctor’s appointment:
A fun iPhone app
I bought my tickets last night. The date is set. Moving back to the USA. I gotta say I’m very excited. Still got lots of stuff to do. But already thinking about what I want to do when I’m back apart from the obvious finding a job and place to live.
I’m sitting here at work, waiting for the Sys. Admins. to publish the latest release. So not much for me to do until they get around to that. After browsing for a while I came across some posts about cooking, which got me thinking about the things I want to start cooking when I’m back in the States.
I’ve put on a few pounds these past few months, which got me thinking about the dangers of me living back home, close to my favorite junk food places. I do not want to become too overweight, not at my age. So I want to concentrate on lots of home cooking, with simple ingredients, trying to avoid any processed foods. And walking. Lots and lots of walking. I’m kind of hoping of finding a job that is close enough to where ever I will be living that I can walk to work and back, maybe bicycle as well.
Posting this as a reminder to myself, something to read when I am back.
California here I come!
My kids love a very simple pasta I make; “Babu’s Pasta”. It’s pasta with Ricotta cheese and tomato sauce. Very simple, very fast. About 15 minutes tops.
